Excellent teaching is characterized by individuals with a passion for learning and educating others. I take pride in knowing that I embody these characteristics through my pursuits in music education, instructional technology and videography. My passion has always been for sharing music with others whether on the concert stage, in the classroom or through multimedia.
My Skill Sets
Video Capture & Post-Production
Using state of the art video and audio equipment, members of the Aphorism Studios team capture up to 12 angles of video with multi-channel audio for clients in the greater midwest area. As an assistant engineer I have recorded live, private recitals and talking head events as well as studio recordings for competitions and promotional material.
Videography Demo Reel
This video is a compliation of recent on-site captures completed for musical groups associated with Aphorism Studios Inc.
As a masters student in Instructional Technology I have taken courses in distance education, design principles, instructional media design, educational software development as well as ethics courses. My field experience includes designing and/or converting secondary and higher education courses into online modules.
History of Technology
As a small segment of my education I was required to complete a video that demonstrated my understanding of the history of instructional technology.
K-12 Music Education
My experience teaching music in the sub-specialties of general music, choir and band has pushed me to become an excellent educator, striving daily to deliver my lessons with passion and zeal. I've been able to hone both my instructional technology and videography skill set through designing creative lessons for students of all ages.
Tech meets education
After coming across the book "The Composer is Dead" by Lemony Snicket I wanted to create a lesson that didn't just have me reading the book to the students, but creating a short unit that incorporated more elements of the story. In its newest form, this unit creates an instrument family word wall that explores instrument construction, role and sound characteristics.
I've performed with the NIU Wind Symphony on their recent CD Concerto's for Brass: the Music of Thomas Bough released on Summit Records.
I've worked in partnership with NIU Bright Futures by teaching a real time, interactive elementary music lesson to three local libraries simutaneously through the use of LOLA technology.
I've designed, implemented and evaluated a secondary music technology course that integrated CCSS and ISTE standards.
I've written successful grants for a classroom set of Malmark Hand Chimes and hosting an African dancing workshop. Both grants were provided by the DeKalb Education Foundation.
My current résumé includes detailed information about my career goals, employment and educational experiences as well as honors and awards and community outreach.
